Small National Assemblies of Turkey issued a call on the Grand National Assembly at the press conference on 26 May 2010 as the Common Denominator Report was published for May 2010:
Listen to the small National Assemblies and hear their voice.
For you can observe how your work looks from the point of the elector at TsNA meetings, you can do that better than at your party meetings. Since people who do not agree with you as well the ones who share your opinion take part in sNA meetings.
You can spare 3 hours at the first weekend of each month to TsNA meeting. You represent the elector and people who give you the mandate want to talk with you once a month, is that too much?
Message from small National Assemblies to the Grand National Assembly:
Let this time the Grand Assembly hear the small one.
05.26.2010
Dear MPs, political parties, and TGNA,
We will stand at an “equal distance to all of you” but will not leave you alone until we all have a new, contemporary and civilian Constitution before and after the referendum. We will make every effort to be part of the work of creating a new and civilian Constitution by creating a space where people can discuss their opinion, demands and tendencies “constantly, directly, without prejudices and censorship”.
First step: Constitutional amendments will be on our agenda until the day of the referendum. The purpose is not deciding if the reforms are good or bad but to make sure that every elector makes the decision him/herself. Our task is to help make sure that people clearly understand the meaning of the amendments and their consequences in everyday life and contribute to NGOs to spread this knowledge to their base. We want the electors, as many as possible, know "what they are saying no for and what they are saying yes for”.
The second step: Whatever the referendum results are, our work will continue. The Common Denominator generated from the work of TsNA so far is this: "1982 Constitution has to be amended radically and a new, contemporary, civilian and democratic Constitution has to be prepared with widest participation". TsNAs will continue their work towards that aim even if that takes years.
Dear MPs, political parties, and TGNA,
Conclusion: small National Assembly invite all of you to TsNA meetings
A work program consisting of the meetings of your own party until the referendum will not be adequate, since your meetings will mostly gather your supporters. Those who disagree do not attend since the numbers show strength. While sNA meetings are a family Picture of your constituency including all social sections. The door is open to everyone; all we leave outside is our prejudices.
Yes, you are big we are small. That is because you have the power to make decisions.
But let’s get together and turn this tradition other way round, this time let "Let the Grand Assembly listen to the small one."
Let us work together towards a new, democratic and civilian Constitution.
With warmest regards,
